My Approach:

Our minds are very powerful and we often believe that if we just think hard enough we can figure our way out of a problem. So we keep thinking and thinking and thinking and create a circular pattern. Unfortunately, this makes our mind spin and can trigger anxiety or panic.

At other times we ask for guidance. We try to open to the universe for answers. But guidance rarely comes as sudden illumination gifted from above. More often it comes from taking consistent steps in staying grounded and being connected to the deepest core of ourselves.

Grounding calms us and helps us feel supported. As babies, a primary task of ours was to bond to people and gravity. This bond gave us the safety and support to push away and explore the world. If we were lucky, we went forth as toddlers feeling very secure. If something knocked us over or challenged us, we could get up and recover.

As adults, many of us yearn to find this primal grounding again. Either we never really got it in the first place or the knocks have come so steadily and with so much force we don’t feel secure anymore. At its best, grounding offers a deep security of belonging on earth and trusting you will be cared for while you are here!

In yoga, the core energy channel is called the wheel of life or sushumna. It’s an energetic core that lets us feel the deepest part of ourselves. As we live in more contact with this central channel we uncover creative solutions, intuitions, and pathways for action. We find an undisturabable part of ourselves. The calm within the storm.

This core also contains energy centers that allow us to feel our creativity, our agency, our sense of tenderness, our clear mindedness and our ability to speak. Deepening contact with our core give us the qualities to move ahead with definitive action.

This practice allows us to connect deeply with other humans and at that same time stay in our clarity and calm.
